"I
was so Tired of Living the kind of life I was trapped
in. When I found out I was pregnant, I was ashamed and scared. I
knew I needed to get help, But I just didn't know where to turn."
Denise M. (age 24)
So
many pregnant women who have addiction problems have said the same
thing. Pregnant women coping with addiction have unique and complex
needs. These women have few options or resources available to them
that are suited to their circumstances. While they may be able to
access a treatment program, they are not able to participate because
they have no one to care for their other children.
SEFP
is unique because it enables mothers and children to remain together
throughout the treatment experience. Even after the women deliver,
they can return to SEFP with their newborns and remain for an additional
two months. This Foster an environment where women can get the help
they need to overcome their addiction and learn to become responsible
parents. The children join them in a healthy, stable and secure
environment where recovery and positive skill development are the
goals.
To
Minimize any complications of pregnancy, the women are medically
supervised during their entire treatment stay. Access to OB/GYN
services is available from Riverside Regional Medical Center as
a result of a memorandum of agreement with Riverside Regional Medical
Center. Staff will work closely with private OB/GYN physicians and
pediatricians so that women can continue to receive care from their
own physicians.
